Flyte Kestrel Nest Box
The Flyte Nest Box for Kestrels. A purpose-made, specially designed, roosting and nesting box for Britain's most common Bird of Prey.
The Kestrel Box should be mounted on its wooden bracket in an isolated tree or edge of woodland, or on a building that can give a clear flight path to the box.
If there are no suitable trees to mount the nesting box then it can be installed on a high pole or building with open views to assist the birds in their hunt for mice. However, try to ensure there are additional branches or ledges nearby to help fledglings when leaving the box.
The Kestrel Box should be mounted at a minimum height of 4 m (optimal height is 5 to 7 m). Preferably mount the Kestrel Box facing east to southeast and away from the prevailing wind.
Made using top quality, Certified, untreated Scandinavian Redwood. All nails are stainless steel and screws are double plated (to prevent rust).
The 20mm thick close-grain timber has excellent insulation properties to keep the birds warm in winter and cool in summer. Each nest box is finished in a nano-tech coating, in Natural Green, for long term preservation against fungal attack and rot. Perfectly bird-safe.
Dimensions overall: 76cm tall, 60cm wide (looking at the long side when mounted), incl. roof overhang, and stands out 40cm from the building overall.
It is quite a large nest box and weighs 12kg. When mounting Nest Boxes please consider your own safety first.
From the RSPB:
Kestrels are falcons that would choose a natural site on a cliff ledge, ledge on a building, disused stick nest or a tree hollow. Nest boxes should be installed at a height above 15ft in an isolated tree or edge of woodland or on the side of a building.
Although kestrels are more at home in a farmland environment, they can adapt to live in a variety of habitats and can be found in towns and cities if prey is available - in urban settings, successful birds hunt along railway cuttings and on brown-field sites. This hovering falcon is an adaptable bird of prey, feeding on a wide range of prey including small mammals, birds, insects and amphibians.
Delivered by courier in 2 parts - the box and the bracket. Please allow 2 - 3 working days for delivery.
